Labor Day, you are the cherry on top of the sundae that is summer.
Labor Day weekend is my favorite holiday of the year. I love everything about it.
I love that it is the perfect end to summer and the perfect beginning to fall.
I love that it is long and leisurely and relaxed. I love that there is an underlying feeling that routine and order are just about to resume.
Labor Day is like one last party before the lights go out on summer. The days are still hot, but the evenings bring a chill in the air that lets you know fall is closer than you’d like to believe.
The school year has again started, the daily grind is back in full swing and Labor Day weekend brings a temporary reprieve; a last lazy, long weekend before the routines start back up again, for good.
Labor Day is the chance to soak up everything one loves about summer, while anticipating the change of the fall season.
Labor Day does not have the feast of Thanksgiving, the gifts of Christmas, or the candy of Easter. But for me, Labor Day has so much more.
And that is why, even though I can’t fully express why, why, Labor Day is my favorite holiday, it just is.
This Labor Day weekend we enjoyed ourselves up at my in-laws summer place.
K and the kids were busy doing their thing.
The dogs did their own thing.
And I spent plenty of time doing my own thing.
And you know what I love most about Labor Day?
We all got to do it together.

You have such a wonderful way with words, Lisa! And the unique ability to make me see things in a different light. All my life, I’ve dreaded the Labour Day weekend, and now I might ~ just might ~ start enjoying it, too. Next year. Although it depends, hubby’s thick into harvest right now, so he’s never home. Which makes any day ~ even weekends and holidays ~ feel like any other day. Plus, this weekend was cloudy and cool and a bit damp.
But school starts tomorrow up here! Woo-hoo! I’m definitely excited about the RETURN OF THE ROUTINE!

I would love that Labor Day, too. There’s nothing like a summer day on the lake.

What a great weekend.!!!! How nice is it that you can spend it with your family. I decided to take the kids away for Labor Day, so we went down to So Cal and it was so nice to just hang out with friends and do nothing!!!

You are right. It is the ONE time all summer long when the entire fam can kick back and relax.
Looks like you guys had a great weekend. Oh, how I miss Lake Michigan.

No Labour Day here.
We do have a bank holiday on the last Monday of August, and as school does not start until September, it does have that lovely end of summer feel.
As I no longer work (in paid employment outside of the home!) bank holidays are not quite the same, but I love them all the same. If my dh does not have to work, we try to spend that weekend at the cottage, but this year he was on call at the hospital.
Yours looked like lots of fun.
