“Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.” -vince lombardi
Somebody had a rough practice today.
And that somebody is starting to realize that the sport he loves is a lot of work. And he has a lot to learn.
Today, the coach was “bossing me around too much.”
I think that’s why it is called practice.
But when you are six, that is still a hard thing to understand.
It’s a good thing Dad was there, waiting to offer encouragement.
That’s what Dad’s are for.
He’ll have to go it alone soon enough.

Sometimes, it is so difficult to realize that the coaches are helping us! Hope the next practices go better for him

Jacob just started playing soccer and it’s a hard lesson to learn that you don’t get the ball ALL THE TIME.

Awwww, I love that first picture. Practice is such a tough concept for little kids, it seems. And it’s heart-breaking as a parent, too, to see them disappointed or frustrated. Perseverance is such a hard thing to teach when it’s hard to come by as an adult!!

Awww. I wish I lived in a cold place and could understand hockey. It just isn’t happening down here in Dixie. I went to a pro hockey game in Nashville a few months ago - which was my maiden voyage into the sport - and couldn’t even keep up with the puck.
I totally love your pictures, though. I can translate that into the softball that my 6 year old loves and her daddy coaches. It can get hard, but Daddy’s always her biggest fan. We’ve just entered All-Star season and they are practicing 5 days a week. Talk about needing to love a game.

It’s harder than I thought to let my husband be the one our son needs as he gets older.
This business of growing young men is hard… especially when you’re not ready for your little boy to not be your “baby” anymore.
Great photos. Those are keepers!

This is a great post, and I love the photos. I think that when young people compete in sports, it prepares them for life, the rest of their life. Good job.

I can totally relate to this. It isn’t hockey for us but baseball. We have good practices and then we have days like this.
Great pictures too.

This was really timely for me - Abby had a rough practice today at soccer too. Everyone who scored a goal during practice time got a star stamped on their hand at the end, and she was (I think) the only one who didn’t. Hopefully she’ll try to work hard so she can get one next week.
I love that first picture!
